One of the best opportunities to make your yard look beautiful next spring and summer is here right now! The fall planting season is in full swing. Here is an easy guide for anyone at any level to utilize!
1. Spring Bulbs
Make sure you pick the right spot and plant them deep! Now that we are early into November you need to get them in the ground ASAP. The prime planting time for spring bulbs is late September - October. Once they are in the ground (Pointy side up) it is a waiting game for the spring!
2. Trees and Plants
Juneberrys and dogwoods are great to install for the Upstate climate of New York they both bloom and are natives to North America. Fruit tress are also great to install such as apple and plum trees! While shrubs are also great options such as "arborvitaes".
3. Perennials
When planting perennials, follow these:
1) Plant before frost.
2) Don’t fertilize. Fall-planted perennials will be going into winter dormancy in their next stage of life and new growth (encouraged by feeding) will be killed when the first frost comes.
3) Avoid planting late-flowering perennials.
